Tenerife was the location this year for the annual meet with sail design guru Ben Severne. I hooked up with Ben for 3 days in El Medano, Tenerife, and due to no wind had the chance to really get under the skin of one of the worlds best sail designers.
His atension to detail, and his uncompromising approach to materials and their use in his designs just bowled me over again. The more time you spend with this guy you appreciate why he left the MAJOR sail brand he worked for ( because he would design a sail to have to cut the quality to maintain margins!) and set up SEVERNE SAILS himself. The result are sails with materials in them other brands won't start using for another couple of years. Materials that stop stretching, make the sail lighter, and increase stability of the sail for the average sailor.
