Me and team rider and fellow UKWA slalom competitor Steve C had been watching the weather forecasts over the last few days and today was shaping up to be a nice slalom run day at local spot Wells-Next-the-Sea.
We set off this morning but as we made our way up to the North Norfolk coast it became obvious that the wind gods were going to play silly buggers!. We were met with not a breath of wind in Wells outer harbour.
With nothing better to do we went for a stroll out to the West Bank and my day was to get a whole lot better. Out on the outer bar we were greeted with a pod of seals, 12 of them, bathing on the beach, playing in the water, and when Steve and I quietly edged close enough to take the photo, even came within 10 metres of the waters edge with a curious confidence that was amazing.
We're quite often lucky enough to sail with these wonderful animals on the North Norfolk coast, and from time to time, they'll pop their heads above the water metres from where you are water starting - but I've never had the pleasure of seeing 12 seals on my local beach up close and personal!
